Fauna Project

A very cold morning, complete with wind and light rain, created challenging conditions for our ten participants this time. To date, we have found four species of cellar spiders (family Pholcidae), associated with buildings in the Gardens. Three are introduced Old World species, while one, Modisimus texanus (shown below), is a native. Note that its eyes are clustered on a high median turret - a very distinctive feature.
