The overnight thunderstorm was just abating as two volunteers began this week's survey. It remained mostly overcast, warm and drizzly. The garden ponds are home to both frogs and toads. While frogs lay their eggs in large clumps, toads produce gel-covered strings. Those shown below were laid the previous night and will hatch in about 24 hours.
