The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
It was hot and sunny as five volunteers conducted this week's survey. One of our tiniest ladybird beetles is pictured below. Measuring less than 2 mm in length, Psyllobora renifer is one of the few ladybird beetles that feeds not on aphids and other insects as one would expect, but on fungus. Another oddity is the Feather-legged Orbweaver. Unlike almost all other spiders, this species and its close relatives do not have venom glands!
