A team of fifteen completed this week's survey under hot and sunny conditions. Ants are often seen interacting with various insects that feed on sap, such as aphids, scale and planthoppers. The ants are protecting the source of honeydew (waste liquid excreted by the herbivores), which they harvest directly from the rear ends of their charges.
