The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

A team of fifteen conducted this week's survey under cool, heavily overcast conditions with intermittent rain. The cuckoo bee shown below looks very bare compared to its hairy cousin, the digger bee (also shown). Female digger bees need to collect pollen for their young, while the cuckoo bee does not; it simply lays its eggs in another bee's provisioned nest.
