A cool cloudy and drizzly morning eventually progressed to a constant downpour as a team of eleven conducted this week's slightly shortened survey. The cocoons in two images shown below were created by parasitoid wasp larvae that fed internally within caterpillars before killing them. In the case of the braconids, the host caterpillar would have remained on top of the stack of cocoons and guarded them until it died and fell off.
