The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
Moderate temperatures on a cloudy morning made this week's survey delightful for the six participants. Cotton rats, such as the youngster shown here, are frequently seen in the Gardens. Females can produce litters of 2-10 up to 9 times a year and young can be weaned as early as 5 days! They provide prey for snakes, bobcats, coyotes, foxes and, of course, the resident great horned owls. Additional survey pictures can be viewed on Dvori's Flickr page.
