The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

A team of ten completed this week's survey under cool, heavily overcast conditions. Spiders have different ways of protecting their egg sacs from predators; many leave them well hidden, camouflaged or in hard-to-reach spots while others, such as two shown below, take a more involved approach. The Meshweb Weaver simply guards hers, while the Spitting Spider carries her eggs in her jaws! Additional survey pictures can be viewed on Dvori's Flickr page.
