The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

A cool, cloudy morning became windy and sunny as five participants completed this week's survey. As shown below, the red growths caused by a gall midge look like berries on Ashe Juniper branches. The contrasting color of these galls makes them easy to see, even though they are not terribly numerous. Each one contains a single bright orange larva.
