The sun sure felt good on a cold, windy morning as three volunteers completed this week's survey. The dragonfly exuviae, or shed skin (see image below), found floating in one of the ponds clearly shows the mouthparts that the insect uses to catch its prey. The large lower jaw can shoot forward at an incredible speed, nabbing unsuspecting insects, small fish or tadpoles.
