The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
We had hot and partly sunny conditions as our team of six completed this week's survey. Insects with exceptionally long antennae sometimes possess the moniker "longhorn." One example is the male bee shown below, its gender easy to distinguish by antenna length. The longhorn beetle also pictured has antennae well over twice as long as what is included here; I had to crop them off to show more detail of the insect's body!
