Ten people participated in this week's survey under very cloudy, warm and breezy conditions. Aphids are quite abundant right now. Although they reproduce like crazy, they do have a number of predators that keep them in check. Below are just two examples: the ballooned out aphid corpses containing tiny braconid wasps (each adult wasp will exit its host through a round hole it will chew in the back), and a meshweb weaver attacking a winged adult aphid. The highlight of this survey was the young rattlesnake shown below.
