The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
A chilly, sunny morning quickly warmed up during this one-person survey. Not many bee species mate in the vicinity of flowers, probably because male bees are very aggressive towards each other and will try to disrupt mating pairs. Immediately after the photo below was taken, the approaching bee pulled the male off and they fell to the ground in a wrestling match. One then flew away and the other followed.
