The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
Another warm, muggy morning greeted our party of five. There was enough cloud cover to make photography a challenge, but the sun appeared occasionally to help heat things up. One of the highlights was watching a blister beetle feeding on Basket Flower. The mandibles of this beetle are modified into two long structures that allow the insect to feed on nectar much like butterflies. Another interesting creature that is relatively common this spring is the pink form of an Acanloniid planthopper. These are usually green.
