The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
The extra Saturday survey had only one participant, but the weather was splendid (sunny and mild), and the animals were interesting. One highlight was seeing a fishing spider attack a great purple hairstreak that was resting too close to the water in the big pond. Another was observing a honey bee with pollinia (pollen sacs) attached to its legs as it fed on the blossoms of antelope horns. The sunshine brought out numerous insects that were found warming themselves on leaves after a cool night.
