Gaze balls might be old-fashioned, but the one shown above fit right in with the elegantly antique look of the Herb Garden at Kanapaha Gardens in Gainesville, FL. Periwinkle was uncharacteristically cooperative in posing on the narrow ledge of the column holding the ball, while Val and Evelyn snapped photos. They are visible in the reflection. Larry was also along on that visit, which occurred on Dec. 26, 2012. One unusual aspect of Kanapaha Gardens is their permitting of leashed pets, not a common rule in public botanical gardens. They even provide water dishes for the four-legged guests. During our latest visit, which was in Dec., 2017, the familiar gaze ball was missing, apparently having been broken.
