This issue features a photo of musical merriment from around 1951, in Joliet, IL. Two of Val's uncles and an aunt, from her father's side of the family, are shown: Nita and her husband Wally (John's brother) are playing accordions, while Tom (married to John's sister, Helen) is on harmonica. The basement location was Tom and Helen's house, which had been remodeled to include a bar and space for entertaining. Tom's hat was a gift from someone and he usually left it near the bar, wearing it only occasionally as a joke. Very few photos of Nita and Wally survive in the extended family as they often didn't want their pictures taken. In this instance, however, they appear to be too busy to notice.
