Fauna Project

Cold, cloudy, windy conditions prevailed as a team of one dozen volunteers contributed to this Leap Day survey. The planarian shown below is a terrestrial flatworm believed to have originated in Asia, but now found worldwide. It preys upon earthworms and commonly reproduces by fragmentation, releasing a portion of its tail which then regenerates a new head.
