The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

Ten volunteers contributed to this survey on a cold sunny morning with a light dusting of snow. Although cochineal insects protect themselves with white fluff, a number of predators specialize in eating them anyway. Shown below are two specific examples: the lady beetle and the aphid fly.
