The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

After a light freeze the previous night, the weather was cold and sunny as thirteen volunteers completed this week's survey. Lady beetles, such as the individual pictured below, are predators that have a diverse diet. Fairly slow moving, they tend to eat any edible thing they encounter, from aphids to lady beetle larvae and pupae to pollen. The eggs this beetle is devouring might even be her own!
