The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

A team of fifteen completed this week's survey under sunny and very hot conditions. The exoskeleton of spiders varies significantly in thickness over different parts of the animal. While it is substantial and sturdy on the legs and jaws, the part covering the abdomen is very thin and flexible, as the Garden Spiders shown below (before and after oviposition) illustrate.
