Fauna Project

A seventeen-member team completed this week's survey under cold and mostly cloudy conditions. Squirrels are not the only animals that cache seeds for later consumption. We watched the Scrub-jay shown below as it picked up acorn after acorn and buried them nearby. Of course, the nuts hidden but not retrieved have a good chance of germinating and producing the next generation of trees.
