Fauna Project

It was a cold, sunny and breezy morning as ten volunteers participated in our last survey of the year. Some arthropods, mainly scavengers, can curl into a ball or spiral as a defense against predators (note the pillbug and crested millipede shown below). Centipedes cannot curl up, but even tiny species (also shown below) are predators and possess venom for both hunting and protection.
