A team of seven completed this week's survey under hot and mostly sunny conditions. Many orbweaver spiders are nocturnal and build their web each night. The Neoscona shown below is in the process of dismantling its old web. Instead of remaining where it is vulnerable to predators, it will spend the day hidden in a retreat, eating the glob of silk it has gathered. The recycled protein will help it build a new web at dusk.
