Fauna Project

A team of six completed this week's survey. It was hot and mostly sunny. There are hundreds of species of caterpillars found in our area but only a small number have venomous spines. The Io moth larva shown below is one example; its brittle spines contain venom and break off on contact. Individual reactions vary, but the sting is generally rather painful and similar to a bee sting.
