The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
A team of five volunteers completed this week's survey under cold and cloudy conditions. The sun appeared only at the very end, hence a butterfly sighting. Wasp larvae are not much to look at and, in fact, are rarely seen. They almost always develop within a nest or a host insect. The larva shown below was accidentally dug up from a pile of soil where it had lived in a burrow dug by its mother and fed on a paralyzed insect or spider.
