The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
Five participants enjoyed a relatively cool, sunny morning during this survey. The recent drop in temperature seems to have been a signal for autumn species; we saw several moths that are seasonal, including the Corn Earworm, the Fall Armyworm, and the lovely Imperial. Although we thought the darkling beetle shown below was eating a piece of chewed gum, upon closer examination it appears instead to be a healthier snack of dried strawberry.
