The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
Seven people conducted this week's survey in stifling hot and sunny conditions. While wasps are not normally thought of as major pollinators, the Tarantula Hawk shown below (covered with yellow pollen) was doing an admirable job on Passionflower. The tiny metallic green Long-legged Flies, so often seen around gardens, are predators and feed on even smaller insects such as gnats and aphids.
