The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

It was a dark and stormy morning as our group of five took a quick look around the Gardens in between downpours. The much needed rain was both a novelty and a delight, but it did mean that we saw fewer animals than usual. One exception was snails. The Globular Drop is a common land snail with a shell lip (edge) that can vary from thin to very thick. There is preliminary research that suggests the snail is able to sequester calcium for future use within this structure.
