A mild and overcast morning greeted our eight participants this week. Although the drought has been hard on katydids, they are still around, concentrated near water sources that support the foliage they eat. One of the big differences between the related katydids (nocturnal) and grasshoppers (diurnal) is the length of their antennae; long is better for feeling around in the dark.
