The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project |
Although it was a cold and windy morning, the sun quickly warmed up our five participants. Due to the low morning temperature, many flying insects, such as bees, flies, butterflies and even a dragonfly, were found perfectly still; we could finally get a good look at them! Instead of seeing Southern Yellowjacket workers (females) as on previous surveys, this time we noted more males, which are a bit bigger and have slightly larger and longer bodies.
