Saldidae ~ Shore Bugs |
Shore bugs are cryptic and tiny. I've only found them once and it was in the winter inside a newly constructed greenhouse. The insects I saw were about 3 mm long, which is on the small side for this family, and their color pattern matched those in the genus Micracanthia. There were several insects running quickly about on the damp floor. They have big eyes and are either predatory or scavengers. This family is rather interesting in having features of both terrestrial and aquatic families. |
