Seasons

Valerie, Manhattan, Illinois, 1963

Originally from Moments by Valerie, a collection of memories (1961-1983), written in 1986 and presented to Larry on their first anniversary.

Dawn in spring.
A golden sun
Gently sparkles
In cool dew.
Bird songs woven
In pine needles
Drift through the hills.
Peace flows within
The tree of life.
A summer afternoon.
The sun-baked pavement
Shimmers with heat waves.
A bird slowly crawls
Across the ceramic sky
But utters no sound.
In warm shade,
A dog sleeps lifelessly
And time stands still.
The brilliant autumn dusk.
Scarlet leaves glow
With the touch of fire,
As geese rush past
The cool flames.
The crisp breeze
Transports the season.
A deer pauses to feel
Eternity in a moment.
Winter midnight.
The silver light
Of a waning moon
Glistens on quiet snow.
Tiny footsteps are lost
In white velvet
And silence.
The cold softens
A world asleep.
