What better activity for a holiday weekend like Memorial Day than to do a little tree removal? In a photo taken on May 29, 2000, Vicky (up in the tree - see inset) and Tom (holding rope down on the ground) are engaged in a minor home improvement project. The mostly dead tree was in their Turtle Lake, WI, front yard, along with a partner (visible directly behind the doomed pine) that was still healthy. One year later, another large tree on the other side of the healthy one came down in a storm, taking power lines with it.
