Considering that here in central Texas, July means hot and dry conditions, this refreshingly wet scene from Wisconsin feels like, well, a splash of cool water. Vicky, Val and their mother, Evelyn, are wading in the Apple River near Amery and just trying to keep their footing on the rocky bottom, while Vicky's daughter, Isabella, takes full advantage of the flow. Larry took the photo on Saturday, July 11, during one of the outings for the BugGuide 2015 Gathering, which was held at Tom and Vicky's farm in Turtle Lake. The entire weekend was devoted to studying, collecting, and photographing insects, but the lovely surroundings offered the two dozen attendees ample opportunities for scenic snaps and recreational romps.
