LARVALBUG LENS, April, 2008
Our lens focuses on Valerie's maternal grandmother, Mary, walking along the shore of Lake Michigan on March 22, 1959. She and her husband, Charles, lived in Miller, a suburb of Gary, Indiana, and their house was just a block from the lake. Although it looks bleak and cold in March, the sandy beach was a favorite spot in the summertime, and family members living in Joliet, Illinois, often visited. After Charles died suddenly from a heart attack, in 1960, Mary moved back to Joliet to join her family.
